CHORAL & ART SONG
“Dandelions”
SATB w/ Divisi, performed by the Choral Arts Initiative at their PREMIERE // Project Festival 2025. Ömer Aziz Kayhan, Conductor
Lyrics adapted from the poem by Frances Ellen Watkins Harper
In the empty field, where we as children used to play
Gentle friends cloth'd in gold brighten our way!
Dewdrops and the morning sun weave your garments fair and bright And we welcome you this brand-new day as children of the light.
As a bright and joyous troop, from the breast of Earth ye came,
then your yellow petals turn to white in the 'midst of strife
and uncertain times you give us hope
as gentle breezes fly your seeds away —
Were our vision clearer, in this world dimmed by sin
We could not help but understand all the richness of the gifts
that flow from our land.
“Wind on the Hill”
Performed by Hailey McAvoy, mezzo-soprano and Bethany Pietroniro, piano.
Lyrics from the book of poems,“Now We Are Six” by A.A.Milne
No one can tell me, nobody knows,
Where the wind comes from, or where the wind goes.
It's flying from somewhere as fast as it can,
I couldn't keep up with it, not if I ran.
But if I stopped holding the string of my kite,
It would blow with the wind for a day and a night.
And then when I found it, wherever it blew,
I should know that the wind had been going there too.
So then I could tell them just where the wind goes…
But where the wind comes from, nobody knows.
“The Evening Hour”
SATB w/ Divisi, performed by the Walden School of Music Composer’s Choir, Thomas Colohan, Conductor
“The Evening Hour” by John Clare
It is the evening hour, how silent all do lie,
The horned moon he shows his face in the river with the sky.
Just by the path on which we pass,
The flaggy lake lies still as glass.
Spirit of her I love, whispering now to me,
Stories of sweet visions, as I rove, here stop, and crop with me
Sweet flowers that in the still hour grew,
We'll take them home, nor shake off the bright dew.
My love, or sweet spirit of thee, as the bright sun shines tomorrow.
Thy dark eyes these flowers shall see, gathered by me in sorrow.
In the still hour when my mind was free to walk alone,
yet I wish, oh how I wish I walked with thee!
